5 Home Remedies to cure Type 2 Diabetes

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Diabetes has become the country’s fastest-growing disease burden in 15 years up until 2016. India has 49 percent of the world’s diabetes burden, with an estimated 72 million cases reported in 2017. This number is expected to almost double to 134 million by 2025 if corrective measures are not adopted.

Diabetes is a condition where the body is unable to regulate its insulin levels, which in turn leads to tissue damage, and in the worst case scenario, organ failure. There are two main types of Diabetes – Type 1 and Type 2. Although both these types are chronic and affect the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar or glucose, there are some fundamental differences.

Type 1 vs. Type 2 Diabetes

People with type 1 diabetes don’t produce insulin. People with type 2 diabetes don’t respond to insulin the way they should; and further down into the disease, they often don’t make enough insulin.

Those suffering from type 1 diabetes may experience irritability and frequent mood swings, and may also voluntarily lose weight. People with type 2 diabetes may feel numbness and tingle in their hands or feet.

Another significant difference is that the symptoms of type 1 diabetes develop comparatively faster, typically over the course of several weeks. On the other hand, many people with type 2 diabetes won’t see any symptoms for many years. The symptoms of type 2 diabetes develop slowly over the course of time.

Like most lifestyle diseases, once diagnosed with Diabetes (type 1 or Type 2), patients are usually prescribed anti-diabetic medicines for life. However, there are some home remedies which one can do to keep the blood sugar levels in check naturally. These ingredients are found in almost every household and you can start with these from tomorrow:

1. Methi Seeds (Fenugreek)

Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight, and have the water along with the seeds (whole or powdered) first thing the next morning.

2. Bitter Gourd (Karela)

Drink the juice of karela every morning in an empty stomach. It helps in lowering blood sugar levels

3. Indian Gooseberry (Amla)

Drink small quantities of Amla juice every day to lower your blood sugar. It is an excellent source of Vitamin C.

4. Mango Leaves

Wash and sun-dry tender mango leaves and grind them to powder. Mix this powder with water and have every morning and night. Alternatively, you could boil some fresh mango leaves in a glass of water and leave it to cool overnight. Then drink the water in the morning on an empty stomach.

5. The fair share of Vitamin D

Lack of Vitamin D in the body has been related to insulin resistance and diabetes. Include Vitamin D rich foods in your daily diets such as soy milk, orange juice, yogurt, cheese, and cereals.
